Prayer Column

The Prayer Group meets every Saturday and Sunday 9.00-9.30am

We read from Isaiah ch.53 the prophecy of Jesus’ triumph over Satan. We gave thanks for Christ’s sacrifice and that we can know him as the risen Lord. May we reflect the love and beauty of Jesus. Looking forward to the Tour de France we prayed that churches on its route through Yorkshire may be open to welcome visitors and show them Jesus. Mark Harris works in Parliament where he leads bible studies etc. We prayed for him and for Justin Welby (the Archbishop of Canterbury) as his role leads him to new contacts around Parliament.
We remembered those who speak out for Christianity in the media where negative comments seem to be the order of the day.
We gave thanks for Tearfund’s work in Burkhino Faso where they have been busy helping to improve living conditions etc and translating the gospel into the local language. We prayed for Tonga, Samoa and Fiji now being challenged by Islam.
The conflict in Syria continues and there is still great suffering as the aid agencies are having huge difficulties getting food etc to those in need.
We remembered the families of the service personnel killed in the helicopter crash in Afghanistan. We gave thanks for the continuing donations for the Parson Cross food bank and for the work of the Trussell Trust organising food banks nationwide. A recent Daily Mail article criticising food banks backfired on the newspaper when more people were prompted to send donations to the Trust.
