Prayer group column

From Psalm 9 we read..."The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed..." etc.

We prayed against the I.S. causing such fear and turmoil, especially in Iraq and Syria, and gave thanks that Imams are seeking to halt the cruelty and evil of these extremists. Our prayers continued for all those who have fled their homes to escape this cruelty and are now refugees in desperate need.

In many countries corruption of leaders and/or large corporations adds to the poverty of the world's poorest. We prayed that the work of the church may help prevent this and that laws against corruption, already passed, may be implemented and that leaders of the G20 countries may commit to ending corruption and sign up to this at their next meeting which is to be held in Australia.

We prayed for God's blessing on decisions made by our own government and gave thanks for the parliamentary prayer breakfasts and the MPs who attend them. May the Gospel message be heeded to bring peace to a world in turmoil.

We prayed for the new minister at Hillsboro' Tabs and for her husband who is recovering following a fall, for the congregation at Wadsley church - now without a vicar, and for all leading worship in this area of the city.

At this time of harvest we remembered those struggling to get enough to eat and gave thanks for the many food-banks now set up and for other agencies helping the needy. May we continue to be inspired to work for God's justice and righteousness and shine God's light on a broken world. Lord help us to seek out those in need - the lonely, the lost, those in pain etc. - and bring them your loving care.
