Prayer group

In chapter 6 of Isaiah we read "He will judge between the nations... etc." We prayed for a spirit of peace rather than hatred in places where there seems to be almost constant war, bloodshed and unrest.

Our prayers continued for Syria, Palestine, Central African Republic, Northern Nigeria, Iraq etc... thinking especially of the places where I.S. or other extremist groups are taking hold. We remembered those already killed by I.S., those still held hostage and their families as well as all the people who have become refugees trying to flee conflict. May leaders of these groups have a change of heart to realise that this is not the way God wants us to live.

Added to this now is Canada where two soldiers were killed recently by an extremist Muslim.

We continued to pray for a speeding up of the scientists' quest to find drugs to treat the virulent Ebola virus. The disease is still rife in Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia and neighbouring countries fear the spread of the disease.

There is still conflict in eastern Ukraine and the Bible Society have asked us to pray for this area as they aim to provide each soldier with a New Testament. May many find Jesus through this initiative.

We prayed for the church worldwide - for the Pope as he tries to move the Catholic church forward, for the Archbishop of Canterbury (Justin Welby) and for our own church.

We gave thanks for the generosity of people willing to help the needy. This week Wisewood Junior School held their Harvest Festival here and gave all their harvest gifts to the food bank run by Parson Cross Initiative. This will help so many disadvantaged people but we look forward to the day when there is no need for food banks.
