Prayer Group Column

We read from Psalm 90: "Teach us to number our days aright that we may gain a heart of wisdom."

We prayed for the town of Rotherham and the victims of abuse. Sarah Champion, the Labour MP for the town, has fought for stronger laws in respect of child sexual exploitation.

Our prayers for the less well off and those in desperate need continued. May the next elected government prioritise closing the huge gap now evident between rich and poor.

It has come to light that some of those on benefits are being investigated and harassed by an American company employed by the government in its crack down on perceived fraud. They are paid according to the number of benefits they can reduce or eliminate. This leads to distress for many who are wrongly accused.

In Afghanistan women are still treated as second class citizens. A sole female taxi driver has set up in business and is hoping this will start a change in this respect and that others will follow her lead. We prayed for her and for her stand against the Taliban.

We then read from Psalm 121 - "From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord."

Please continue to pray for all those brothers and sisters who are unable to attend our services, whether in hospital, in residential homes or housebound.
