Prayer Group Report

In the 1st letter of Peter, chapter 1, we read: 'In His mercy He has given us a living hope etc...'

We prayed for God's message to be made real to many more people and for revival within the church. May we all encourage people in the way of Jesus, wherever we are.

We prayed for the homeless, the hungry, the unemployed, those being made redundant etc. Many people in this country find themselves in a desperate state and may feel that life is not worth living. We gave thanks for the Transport Police who look out for those who become so depressed that they consider using the railways as an end to their desperation (it is thought that last year more than 320 people committed suicide on the railways).

Our own Foreign Office has stated that human rights are a lower priority than trade! We prayed against their policy of pouring money into places like Saudi Arabia to increase trade instead of putting people first.

We prayed for those who have suffered at the hands of corrupt leaders both now and in the past. May heads of governments, especially Presidents Putin and Obama, be able to find solutions to create peace and harmony in the Middle East.

A huge number of refugees are still streaming out of Syria and making their way to Europe. This week we have heard that the people of Belgium are offering space in their homes. We prayed for them and for other countries taking in these refugees that the health and education systems etc. in place will not be overwhelmed by this influx.

We gave thanks that polio is no longer endemic in Nigeria and prayed for progress in Afghanistan and Pakistan where the disease has not yet been overcome.

Thanks too for the doctors and drug companies finding treatments and new technologies to deal with previously deadly diseases and injuries.

We prayed for the 'Share Jesus' organisation led by Andy Frost. They are about to begin a nationwide tour with entertainment and encouragement to tell God's story. Their presentation can be seen at the Victoria Hall on Friday, 23rd October at 7.30pm - and is free.

Our prayers continued for those in the prayer book or known to us who are ill or in any kind of distress. Rachel (who came to us with a Share Jesus team in 2001) is still making very slow progress.

In the book of Hebrews we read: 'Keep on loving each other as brothers etc'. Lord, give us grace to not only be hearers of the Word but doers also. We pray that we may love our neighbours as ourselves.
