Prayer Group Report

We read from the book of James, chapter 5 - "Prayers of faith are powerful and effective." - and gave thanks for the Bible and all the agencies working in difficult and/or dangerous situations to spread God's word, in the hope that it may become a catalyst for peace - especially in the Middle East.

Right-wing Jews are still claiming land etc. in Palestine. We remembered those Christians working in Israel and Palestine brave enough to reach out with the story of the nativity. We also prayed for the group working in Egypt where their bookshop is constantly being wrecked but, so far, they have managed to reinstate it each time.

Our prayers continued for refugees fleeing war and hatred and for those trying to help them settle in foreign lands, thinking especially of Germany and Austria that there may be sufficient resources available.

On Remembrance Sunday we prayed for those killed and maimed in wars, for hearts and minds to be turned from killing and hatred to love and peace.

We prayed for those mourning the loss of family and friends in the Russian holiday jet disaster and for the security services.

We prayed against the recent disturbances in parts of our own city (around bonfire night) when groups of youths set out to be disruptive and targeted the police.

We prayed for all those mentioned in our prayer book, for the bereaved, those in pain, broken relationships etc...

The first few verses of Haggai are a call to 'Build the House of the Lord' and 'Give careful thought to your ways'.

May we follow God's word and live each day in the way of Jesus.
