Prayer Group Reporting..

We read from verses 1-6 of James chapter 5 - 'Warning to Rich Oppressors'.

So often in the Bible the rich are warned not to be self-centred but to think of others less fortunate than themselves. We gave thanks that the House of Lords voted to delay the withdrawal of tax credits which would have meant that many of the poorer people in society would have been even poorer.

We prayed for young adults struggling to make ends meet and unable to move out of their parents' house to a home of their own because rents and property prices are so high.

In Zambia a catastrophe may be looming for the people who live near copper smelting plants there. They claim that the land and rivers have been polluted by the huge copper mining companies without regard for the environment so their drinking water is poisoned and the land produces little or no crops.

An earthquake in Afghanistan/Pakistan has devastated a large area. We prayed for the people affected.

We also read from 1 Peter chapter 2 - "You are the people of God etc." giving thanks for the guidance we find in the Bible and, on the Church Anniversary weekend, gave thanks for this church.

We prayed for ecumenical groups working across the city and for who works with the Church Army in Sheffield city centre.

We gave thanks for Biblelands and prayed for the success of its campaign to distribute booklets about the nativity nationwide.

Our prayers continued for refugees and those helping them. In Austria the church is very involved in helping them settle and there is now a need for more Bibles there.

Nearer to home, please remember in your prayers people experiencing difficulties in their family lives, the work situation or at school/university.
