Prayer Group

We read from chapter 3 in the book of Romans about righteousness through faith and also in Ephesians, chapter 15: 'May God strengthen you with power so that Christ may dwell in your hearts'...

We prayed for the church worldwide and for its leaders giving thanks that in many areas churches of different denominations are joining together to show Jesus to their neighbourhoods and to help the needy. We gave thanks for uplifting worship and praise in this Easter season.

Our prayers continued for refugees fleeing their homes because of war, injustice, persecution etc... and for those people denied their homelands (Aborigines, American Indians, Palestinians).

We remembered the family of the Muslim shopkeeper killed in Glasgow simply because he appreciated his Christian friends and customers. We gave thanks that so many people have come forward to support his family. Also for the family of a young man who lost his life last week when his car skidded off the Sheffield Parkway. The accident was not discovered for some time and it was, by then, too late to save him.

We prayed for the steel industry in this country where thousands of jobs are under threat as Tata seem set to sell off or close their steel plants. May they meet with politicians, union leaders and workers to keep steel production going to avoid mass unemployment.

We see the divide between rich and poor in this country becoming wider. More and more people are reliant on food-banks or find themselves homeless or having to endure inadequate bed and breakfast type accommodation, especially in London.

We prayed that the 'powers that be' will see these growing problems and find solutions to bring about a fairer society.

We prayed for all those mentioned in our prayer book and for the lonely, the housebound, the bereaved and the sick.

Thanks too that we are able to show Jesus to the people we meet. May we always be willing witnesses for Him.
