Prayer Group Report

We read from Proverbs about wisdom: 'Let the wise listen and add to their learning. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.'

We echoed the words of the current Methodist Youth President, giving thanks for God's faithfulness to us and praying for the persecuted church in many parts of the world when their faith is put to the test and worship is difficult.

Our prayers continued as we asked for God's help for peace in the Middle East (Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt etc.) and for refugees. We gave thanks for the way the Jordanians have welcomed and integrated so many refugees.

We prayed for the 'Jews for Peace' group that their voice be heard as the long-standing Israeli/Palestine conflict shows little sign of resolving. We shared the prayer of a Lebanese priest: "Put peace in our hearts and heads and mercy into our lives".

We prayed for other areas of conflict in Africa and for the girls being kidnapped by terrorist groups such as Boko Haram, remembering especially the 200 girls captured 2 years ago and still not returned to their families.

In Northern Canada the needs of indigenous tribes are often not considered a priority and these groups have recently seen a sharp rise in suicides. The feeling of hopelessness seems to affect so many young people in all parts of the world. We prayed for resources to become available to help them into a better life.

We gave thanks for the children and young people who come into our services or take part in uniform organisations and other activities on the premises. We prayed for their leaders and the hard work they put in.

We prayed for Katie and other Methodist ministers who go into schools to take assemblies etc. and for Christian teachers who introduce the children to Jesus and His way of living.

We prayed for all those mentioned in our prayer book, the bereaved and people awaiting treatments or operations.

May we have the wisdom of Jesus in knowing you and that you are always with us.
