Prayer Group Report

Reading from 2 Samuel, we see that God chooses and uses the most unlikely people to spread His message of love.

At this time of Pentecost, we prayed that God's Holy Spirit will bring power to His people to proclaim the message of Jesus far and wide.

We prayed for those meeting this week to discuss the problems caused by corruption and how to combat this and tax avoidance. If all legitimate taxes were paid many countries would be lifted out of poverty and the present world aid budget would be unnecessary.

Hundreds of people are still trying to cross from Africa (in particular Libya) and the Middle East to Europe and again during the past week hundreds were saved from flimsy boats, and almost certain death, by Italian patrol boats.

We prayed for peace and for the peacemakers to stop the exodus of those who feel impelled to flee their homes to escape war and turmoil.

We gave thanks for the many years of peace we have experienced in our own country.

The Methodist Prayer Handbook directs us this week to pray for the islands of the Caribbean.

We prayed for all those mentioned in our prayer book and for others known to us who are in any kind of distress.

In Psalm 51 we read: " Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me".
