As a hymn is announced, please stand and get ready to sing. At Worship Consultation meeting we noted that it would make sense that we stood to sing when a hymn is announced, instead of timing it for the end of the introduction (as this can cause confusion to people unfamiliar with our practises). We realise this is going to take time for us to get used to, but... let's go for it! Katie.

Prayer Group Report

Last week, we recalled the story of Naomi and Ruth. Naomi must have been a super role model for Ruth, her daughter-in-law.

We read from Isaiah, chapter 11: 'A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse... etc.' and gave thanks for our best role model, Jesus, and for the people we have seen as good role models.

One of Susannah Wesley's prayers was read asking for humility and steadfastness in prayer.

We prayed for the new presbyters welcomed to the Sheffield Circuit last week that they may be equipped to rise to every challenge and be blessed with new ideas for mission.

We prayed for the hungry and poverty-stricken and gave thanks for the work of the food bank at Parson Cross and for the volunteers working there.

As the Paralympics began we prayed for all those taking part and for the people of Brazil, many of whom live in squalid conditions and are also under threat of the Zika virus.

We prayed for conservationists and scientists seeking to find ways to protect our environment and the remaining wilderness areas with their unique diversity of plants and animals.

As is usual we remembered in prayer those mentioned in our Prayer Book and others in need.
