We read from Psalm 46 - 'God is our refuge and strength... etc... Be still and know that I am God.' Such positive words of encouragement when the world seems to be in such a mess.

We gave thanks for all the agencies working to help needy people around the world.

Tearfund's 'Toilet twinning' project has brought sanitation to many families.

Embrace has various projects across the Middle East to bring together people of differing beliefs.

The Methodist Prayer Handbook asks us to pray for peace among the people of Israel and Palestine and for the ongoing work of the Methodist Church there. May all become one people, able to work and live together. We pray for the day when all can share bread together in peace.

We prayed God's peace for all those who are ill or near the end of life and gave thanks for the progress made in the treatment of cancer and other illnesses.

As we looked to our annual Covenant Service we prayed for our church and our commitment to serve God in this place and beyond.

May the Holy Spirit help us in all our tasks, particularly those for extending God's Kingdom.
