Prayer Column

We read the foreword to this year's prayer Handbook written by Roger Walton, President of the British Methodist Conference 2016/17 "Freedoms to Share".

In January 1941 Franklin D. Roosevelt said: "In the midst of war, I have a vision of a future founded upon four essential human freedoms: of speech, of worship, from want or poverty, from fear."

We thanked God for the freedoms we share: the infrastructure in our land, home, food, shelter, the peace that has prevailed for decades, the new road surfaces we enjoy in our location! We prayed for the areas in our world where these freedoms are denied and prayed for the agencies that bring us news of what God is doing in Syria and how the message of the Bible is giving hope and help to many refugees and poor people in Egypt, China and Algeria, where bibles are in great demand. May God's freedoms flood into the messy war-torn, unhappy corners of our world.
