John G. would like to thank everyone for the lovely cards, kind wishes and for coming along to his party on his 90th birthday.
Bible Study House Group - Monday 22nd July at 7:30pm. Further information ring Colin or Julie on 233 5531. The group is run by Joan and Howard and is the one which previously met elsewhere. The intention is to meet weekly, subject to availability of the members. When there is the monthly Bible Study at church, led by Katie, the group will not meet separately but will join with the meeting at church. All welcome.
Action for Children - This year we are celebrating "150 years of giving the gift of childhood". Rev'd Thomas Bowman Stephenson gave the very first gift when he opened The Children's Home, as the charity was then known. He offered a home, hope and love to children deprived of a safe and happy childhood. The Methodist Church and other supporters have ensured that his legacy of kindness continues today. Gift envelopes are now available for donations supporting vital work helping neglected and vulnerable children and young people. If you are a tax payer and are able to gift aid your donation, please do so. This will provide an additional 25p for each £1.00, at no extra cost to yourselves. Thank you very much for your continued support. Stella.
Community Singers - last Thursday was our last rehearsal before the summer. We will return on Thursday 5th September. As we come to the end of my first year with you, I want to say a big thank you for all your hard work and support. I’m so proud of you all and the beautiful sound you make. It is an absolute joy leading you on Thursday nights! Katie.
Graham's workshop is available for anyone to use to produce items for the Christmas Fayre.
The 'Friends of Wisewood & District' group are organising a Fun Day for the local community on Thursday 8th August 11am-2pm. A variety of activities etc (for children and adults) will be available and all are invited. The event takes place on the site of the former secondary school (Rural Lane/Laird Road) and is supported by the Sports Centre, who are offering a free introduction to badminton, and RIVA, who will be providing refreshments - or bring your own picnic. If you are able to help supervise some of the activities please speak to Margaret P. Thanks.
Response to Bible Readings - Following a discussion at Worship Consultation this week, we have agreed that following all bible readings we are encouraging everyone to use the following:
Reader: "This is the Word of the Lord." All: "Thanks be to God.”
This will also be projected. This is to help to keep responses consistent and to help people unfamiliar with the range of responses.
Kathleen J. has now moved permanently to a home nearer her family.
Methodist Prayer Handbook - The 2019/2020 edition, which begins in September, needs to be ordered early August. This handbook is very helpful and informative as we try to focus our thoughts during prayer time. Each day has a personal prayer, then we are reminded of all the UK Districts, leading to prayers for the world. There is even a simple, coloured map to show where the countries are. A Geography lesson! The booklet costs around £4. If you are interested I need you to tell me by the end of July. I strongly recommend this Prayer Aid and will be glad to order in August. Thank you.
