Prayer Column

We read from Isaiah 58 about true fasting and from John 17 where Jesus prays for himself, his disciples and all believers.

We gave thanks that Jesus prayed for us to be set apart and made holy to do God’s work. Thanks too for the righteous men speaking out for justice and pleading for the poor. May their pleas be heeded and steps taken to alleviate distress.

The Pope is still working to put right many wrongs within the Vatican and the Catholic Church.

In this week of Christian Unity we prayed or all churches, especially in our own area, remembering the ‘Fun Day in the Park’ to be held on the 3rd May. Hillsborough churches will be working together to show Jesus to this community . May we be supportive with one another.

We prayed for Nick Waterfield leading his final trial service—so near to completing his local preacher training.

Our prayers continued or peace in areas of conflict around the world especially :- South Sudan- a new country already falling apart.
Palestine - more and more land is being taken to build Israeli houses.
Syria- many thousands are without homes food water and power. May the world come to the assistance of those suffering and may
humanitarian aid be forthcoming.
In Afghanistan recent suicide bombings targeting westerners caused several deaths and injuries. We prayed for those affected. As we look to the future of that country following the planned withdrawal of troops, all we can see is more turmoil. We prayed for peace and stability.
