Prayer Column

In Psalm 33 we read ‘Blessed is the nation whose god is the Lord’ We gave thanks for churches which have spoken out against social injustices. Thanks especially for those who have confronted the government on behalf of the poor in this country and for the many bishops adding their names to the letter sent to the government about the plight of the poor. May changes be made to lift people out poverty and alleviate the need for food banks.

Thanks too that Sheffield is a city of sanctuary welcoming refugees of war and oppression.

Seeing the turmoil in the Ukraine on our televisions, we prayed for leaders to be lead in talks for a peaceful settlement of the problems there.

Our prayers continued for a peaceful solution to desperate situation in Syria where innocent people are trapped and on the point of starvation. We prayed for moderate Muslims living a life of peace, that their voices be heard among the dissenting factions who continue to fight each other—and other sects—causing turmoil and war.

Biblelands has made such a difference in China that their help is now sought by the powers that be to help with social problems in derived areas. The work of Biblelands in Uganda at present is helping the many people who have eye problems, by providing alternative ways to ‘read’/ hear the bible.

We prayed for those who will be reviewing the questionnaires recently completed by various churches in Sheffield to look at new ways to move forward together .’ Let the mighty strength of the Lord make you strong Put on all the armour that God gives’.
