Prayer Group Column

As we approached Lent, we read from Isaiah chapter 58 about fasting and gave thanks for the comfort and reassurance we get from reading God's Word.

We prayed for the family of Kayla Mueller who was killed recently in Syria. She had spent her adult life helping others - firstly in Palestine and then in Syria to help relieve suffering. She had been held captive by I.S. since 2013.

Our prayers continued for Ukraine - may the proposed ceasefire be effective and lead to lasting peace. At present in Donetsk many people are suffering, having to live without fuel, with little food and money and fighting all around. The plight of two old ladies has been highlighted - they now live in the cellar of what was once their home, their pensions have stopped and they have been forced to beg for several months now.

We prayed for the hunger-lunch supporting 'Churches Action Against Poverty' and for the work this agency does to raise awareness of and support those in need.

We gave thanks for the food bank at Parson Cross and prayed for all those who keep this going week by week.

We prayed for a vision of a better society. May we be made aware of ways to influence government policies to ensure fulfilled lives and make provisions for all to flourish.

May people seek to care for each other and share.
