Prayer Group Column

We read parts of Psalm 9: “I will praise you o Lord with all my heart...” “He will judge the world with righteousness...”

We prayed for our minister, lay worker and stewards. May they draw closer to God through their service. Please include them in your own prayers as you walk through (or if you go to warm your hands by the radiator!) and see their photos in the porch.

St Wilfred's, Queens Road, propose to build an accommodation facility for the homeless on land next to the church. We prayed that planning permission would be granted and that there will be enough resources and volunteers to run the facility.

We gave thanks that Sheffield was the first city in the U.K. to bring to the fore the problems of modern day slavery and is designated a 'City of Sanctuary'. Thanks too for food banks and offers of meals and shelter across the city to help those in need.

The world view of economics has been challenged by various Christian leaders. We pray that whoever is in government will work to reduce the gap between rich and poor.

Our prayers continued for the lone female taxi driver in Kabul and for other women expected to be submissive. May they have the courage to demand education and freedom.

We prayed for those motivated to go into dangerous, war-torn areas to help those in need and for refugees having to flee their homes - thinking especially of Syria and Iraq where some aid workers and many civilians have been killed or cruelly treated by I.S.
