Prayer Group Report

We read from Psalm 33 - 'Blessed is the nation whose god is the Lord... etc.' and Psalm 37 - 'Trust in the Lord and do good... Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.'

We prayed for the leaders of nations, thinking especially of the leaders of countries across the Middle East. May their hearts be turned to peace.

We prayed for all those who have had to flee their homes and are now in refugee camps. Many children are living alone in these places so are vulnerable to exploitation.

The camp in Calais is to be demolished. We prayed that all those having to leave may find places of safety and for a world where every child finds shelter in a loving place (these prayers focused on hymn 527 in Singing the Faith).

'Biblelands' has initiated a counselling service in some refugee camps, to help victims suffering trauma because of their experiences.

Our prayers continued for the work of MAF reaching people in need, in otherwise hard to reach places.

Tearfund asks us to pray for Nepal. Many villages have still not recovered from the earthquake in 2015 and are without clean water. Tearfund has been helping remote communities build small reservoirs, providing holding tanks and setting up committees to support self-sufficiency.

From the Methodist Prayer Handbook, prayer is requested for churches in Australia and New Zealand working hard to encourage younger members in the face of increased secularism.
May God's Holy Spirit breath new life into these places and into the church worldwide. Wisdom of God, be our guide.
