Operation Christmas Child
I can hardly believe that it is time again to be writing an article for the magazine about Operation Christmas Child. Last year you made a wonderful response to my appeal and I hope we can count on your support and prayers for this venture.
The Knit and Chat group have been working hard making hats, scarves and gloves which will be taken to the depot as “fillers”.
If you feel that you cannot fill a complete shoebox perhaps you could donate some items which can be used as fillers. These are items which are added to shoeboxes which arrive at the depot incomplete. The contents of each box are checked to make sure that they do not contravene regulations of the country for which they are destined.
The items which can be used as fillers are:
- Toiletries: Soap, Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Face-clothes, Combs, Hair slides, (No liquid items).
- Stationary: Drawing Books (preferably with little or no writing - Wilkinson’s do a good line in this which fits into the shoebox)Coloured Pencils, Felt Tip Pens, Rulers, Rubbers, Biros, Pencils, Pencil Sharpeners.
- Sweets with a long sell by date, small toys including soft toys, balls and toy cars.
In October there will be the usual display in the porch along with knitting and sewing patterns and leaflets giving information about the shoeboxes and their contents.
Any items that you have or filled boxes can be left in the church office along with any knitting wool you may be able to donate to the Knit and Chat group.
On Sunday 25th November at 10:30 am our Shoebox Service will be led by John Wade when all the shoeboxes and fillers will be received into church.
