Colossians 3 v.15

Action for Children Sunday 14th July 2019 - This year we are celebrating "150 years of giving the gift of childhood". Rev'd Thomas Bowman Stephenson gave the very first gift when he opened The Children's Home, as the charity was then known. He offered a home, hope and love to children deprived of a safe and happy childhood. The Methodist Church and other supporters have ensured that his legacy of kindness continues today. Gift envelopes will be available for donations supporting vital work helping neglected and vulnerable children and young people. If you are a tax payer and are able to gift aid your donation, please do so. This will provide an additional 25p for each £1.00, at no extra cost to yourselves. Thank you very much for your continued support. Stella.

Big Birthday - John Garrett reaches the grand age of 90 on 6th July. To celebrate this special birthday, there will be a buffet lunch at Wisewood Church on Saturday 6th July at 1:00pm to which everyone is invited. Please make sure you sign the list on the desk, in the porch, if you wish to come. Di.

Circuit Service at Wesley Hall next Sunday, 7th July, at 6:00pm.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who came and supported the Wisewood Community Singers’ concert on Saturday 15th June. We raised £402 for Toilet Twinning (with another £30+ being raised from coffee on the Sunday morning following the concert) and MHA Music Therapy. A big thank you to everyone who helped on the night; singers, people who performed poems and solos, Colin and Stuart on sound, Lucy for playing and the people who helped in the kitchen. Katie.

Betty Davies' family would like you to know that £260 has been sent to Bluebell Wood as a result of the collection taken at Betty’s funeral. Many thanks to all who contributed to this sum. Thanks.

Rev’d Katie is representing the Sheffield District at the Methodist Conference from Thursday 27th June till Thursday 4th July and so is unavailable (but still contactable by email). If you require a Minister during this time please contact either Rev’d Jill Pullan (0114 2403514) or Rev’d Mark Goodhand (0114 2420076). Please remember the Methodist Conference in your prayers, especially as this year the report on Marriage and Relationships is being presented to the Conference for discussion and reflection around the Connexion in the next Connexional year. Katie will be leading us in thinking about this paper and the proposed resolutions in the new year.

Rev’d Dr David Lees is received into Full Connexion and Ordained (Katie is going and taking pictures!) on Sunday 30th June. David has written this prayer (which has been included in the Conference Handbook for this year) for the church as we prepare for Conference: "Holy God, as we gather from land and sea, reveal yourself in our midst. Give us the grace we need to focus on you. In our discussion and debate, be our wisdom; in our meeting and community, be our fellowship; in our rest and calm, be our refreshment. Meet us in our needs with your strength and in our comfort with your challenge. This we pray in the name of the one who calls and loves us, Jesus our Christ, our Lord and Saviour. Amen."
